Are you using video in your marketing efforts?

Thanks John, no I totally was fine with your comments. The whole thing came about because my husband wanted to test his camera abilities with his new phone. So he got the idea that I should do the 'marketing' clip for my squidoo lens'. All in all a side from the nerves it was a fun experience.

Have fun making your videos this summer, I think the idea of using velcro to attch the iPhone to a tripod could work! Cheers!

I hope you don't mistake what I wrote. I think you did a great job, especially for a first video. We all start somewhere. If we're interested, then we work through the mistakes and get better.

My friends tell me I have a face that's perfect for radio, but I'm still going to be in some videos I'll make this summer and fall.

I don't know if videod, or videoed, or video'd, are words. I still say "tape it." When I use my Flip camera, I'm likely to say that I'm gonna go Flip something.

My daughter is a professional photographer and laughs about being paid to "shoot" kids. (With a camera, of course!)

I'm going to buy a new iPod and a new iPad this summer and plan to  use them, along with my Flip camera, for making videos. So, I'm looking forward to seeing how I'm going to work with them. I watched a video of a professional fashion photographer who used velcro to attach his iPhone to a tripod. It seemed to work well.

All the best!

Hi John, Thanks for taking the time to watch and review my video... my husband was actually the one who video'd (is that a word) it with his iphone. So on that note that is why it was a bit jerky and so forth. We only did one try so of course it is amateur but hey that's what we are! :-) Anyhow it was fun and eventually I'd like to do a good one to market my zazzle store... but not for awhile! I realize speaking is not really my thing I prefer to write thus the 'um's' Thanks again for your nice comments... have a great day!

Hi Shelley,

I think you did a remarkably good job with your first video.

You are attractive and well-spoken and stay on topic. The audio is a bit low, but you speak distinctly and are easy to understand. You don't move around a lot or have distracting gestures or head movements. You shot it in a good location with good contrast between you and the background, and the lighting is good.

All the jerkiness in the movement of the camera is distracting. It would be much better if you used a tripod or rested the camera on a table or something else that is steady. (That's one of the problems I have, so I may notice it more than other viewers.)

Some of the cuts and transitions are a bit abrupt. Editing is a skill that takes time and practice to master. This doesn't detract too much from what you're saying, but it is a bit jarring to have a transition in mid-sentence with a cross-fade. I think it would be much better to delete an entire sentence rather than cutting out in the middle of one.

You say "ummm" a lot. That's the only thing I noticed in your speaking that was distracting.

When you were shooting close-ups of the computer screen, your camera was too close and wasn't able to focus. It would have been better to stay a bit farther away and be in focus.

It's good that you showed your URL in the closing frames of the video, but you didn't add it into the description of the video. If you add it in the first sentence or two of the description (even if you have to use a URL shortener to make it fit), that gives you an active link from YouTube to your site. People are more likely to click a link than to type in a long URL from a video.

All in all, you did a really good job with this video. I'm looking forward to seeing more from you.

I'm busily learning more about shooting and editing promotional videos and just added one today to my Images By Courtnie Photography lens at:

This video shows a behind the scenes look at a studio photography session where Dena is capturing memories of a very sleepy young baby.

Slowly, but surely, I'm starting to get the hang of shooting and editing video.

All the best,

JD

Good morning, video marketers.

I've been wanting to use videos for marketing for some time and I've finally gotten started with it.

When I bought my new computers this spring, I bought Final Cut Express for editing and apparently I didn't know what I was getting into.

There's a lot to learn when it comes to shooting and editing video.

I'm making a little progress, but it's coming slowly.

My Mac also came with iMovie, and it's complex enough, but simpler than Final Cut Express. I finished my first promotional video yesterday and it's not as good as I would like it to be, but it's much better than my first attempts.

It passed my "good enough to be released" barrier and I uploaded it to YouTube, promoted it on Facebook, linked to it from MurphyConnections.com, and added it to my Rumors Clothing lens.

We'll see how well it does.

If you want to watch it and offer any feedback, I'd welcome it.
