Comment by Shelley Kuhn on June 24, 2011 at 12:03pm Thanks John, no I totally was fine with your comments. The whole thing came about because my husband wanted to test his camera abilities with his new phone. So he got the idea that I should do the 'marketing' clip for my squidoo lens'. All in all a side from the nerves it was a fun experience.
Have fun making your videos this summer, I think the idea of using velcro to attch the iPhone to a tripod could work! Cheers!

Comment by John Dilbeck on June 24, 2011 at 7:32am Hi Shelley,
I think you did a remarkably good job with your first video.
You are attractive and well-spoken and stay on topic. The audio is a bit low, but you speak distinctly and are easy to understand. You don't move around a lot or have distracting gestures or head movements. You shot it in a good location with good contrast between you and the background, and the lighting is good.
All the jerkiness in the movement of the camera is distracting. It would be much better if you used a tripod or rested the camera on a table or something else that is steady. (That's one of the problems I have, so I may notice it more than other viewers.)
Some of the cuts and transitions are a bit abrupt. Editing is a skill that takes time and practice to master. This doesn't detract too much from what you're saying, but it is a bit jarring to have a transition in mid-sentence with a cross-fade. I think it would be much better to delete an entire sentence rather than cutting out in the middle of one.
You say "ummm" a lot. That's the only thing I noticed in your speaking that was distracting.
When you were shooting close-ups of the computer screen, your camera was too close and wasn't able to focus. It would have been better to stay a bit farther away and be in focus.
It's good that you showed your URL in the closing frames of the video, but you didn't add it into the description of the video. If you add it in the first sentence or two of the description (even if you have to use a URL shortener to make it fit), that gives you an active link from YouTube to your site. People are more likely to click a link than to type in a long URL from a video.
All in all, you did a really good job with this video. I'm looking forward to seeing more from you.
