Where Marketing Matters
I have been thinking I would like to see every group on the Squidoo Marketing site have a dedicated group leader and that each group leader will post to a 'directory' area so we can know at a glance which groups are open , active and moderated.
I am thinking I would ask everyone to provide me with the name of and link to the group you have started or are leading on Squidoo Marketing. Then I will be requesting each group have at least one member who assumes the leadership role for the group (more than one would be ideal for busy group areas) and by Summer 2012 I would like to have any group without a leader closed.
This is open for discussion: What are your thoughts on this?

Every group in the community should have clear leadership and focus or be closed.
(If you have a group in mind you would like to lead please include that in your reply here).
You are so right, Deb. I think many of the groups are inactive at this point.
Permalink Reply by GypsyOwl on March 1, 2012 at 12:18pm Hi Joan. It isn't a problem if a group is inactive. I know some topics come and go. Old topics are still of interest to new people. And even I like to have information to look back on when I forget things.
My main concern I think is seeing a group ignore a post from new people. Because no one is interested in the group enough to watch for questions.
I am hoping there is a way to shut down the comments option (that would be my first choice for any groups we deem "closed". This way any groups we close can still be 'read only' (we will not lose important discussions we can later refer back to) and the only thing actually "closed" would be the comments will not be allowed.
I'll test that on one of the oldest least visited... and see if that works.

It would be good if you could close additional comments on a discussion thread or a group as a whole, without losing anything that's already there.
If I knew then what I know now, I would not have turned on the comments options on any of the groups, so that would have encouraged discussions. I know that's not what you were discussing, but possibly it bears some thoughts when creating any future groups. (Just a thought.)
Permalink Reply by GypsyOwl on March 4, 2012 at 6:48am Hi John, I'm doing a test group to see how this would work. The main thing I want to find out is if I turn off the comments option will previous comments be removed. I hope they will stay.
I like your idea of leaving the comments section off right from the start. I'll keep that in mind for the "May Fair" (we will have a 'group' area dedicated to the event.
I think it is going to be best to have discussions rather than 'comments' because no one can 'reply' to a comment post properly. I believe this would be best for all future groups as well.
Thank you for the great idea!
Deb
