Better marketing with Squidoo

John Dilbeck

Have you grabbed your preferred username in the great Facebook username landrush?

This morning, Facebook has made it possible for us to set our preferred username (if it is available) to make it easy to link to our profile there.

I was lucky and now you can reach my profile at facebook.com/johndilbeck.

Have you claimed your username at Facebook, yet?

You can do it here: facebook.com/username.

Hmm ... I'm trying to figure out whether to use my real name or "Ramkitten." I'm leaning towards Ramkitten. I mean, when you get there, you see my real name. Anyhow, thanks for the link. I'd heard about doing this but didn't know where or how and had forgotten about it till now.

Good evening, Deb.

I think it depends upon who you want to interact with on Facebook. If you want people who know you mostly by Ramkitten, go with that. If you want people to contact you who know your real name, that would be the one to choose.

I've never been one to use nicknames or handles, so it's really something I don't quite understand. For me, the choice was easy.

But, I think it all comes down to how you want to present yourself on the web and who you want to find you there.

Act on your dream!

I changed it too. I use my real name, but entered my alternative name as jaye3000. This way if someone searches you with either name, you'll pop up. Pretty cool because you can have it both ways :)

That's what I was kind of thinking. Most of the people who know me by my real name are already Facebook friends (that is, if they're on Facebook at all). But there are many people I've known from long-distance backpacking that probably don't remember my real name but DO know Ramkitten. So I figured that using that handle would allow those folks to find me.
