A few days ago, Lewis Smile wrote an excellent blog post called:
Could you run an Offline Squidoo Business?
I left a comment on his post, but I also wanted to start a discussion here about this topic.
I know I'm not the only one promoting what's going on in my local community. That is going to be a major part of my business this year and I'd like to share ideas with others who are interested in doing the same thing.
I live in the mountains of western North Carolina, near a small town named Murphy. I love living here.
I don't really have time to write all I want to say on this topic this morning, because today is SpringFest in Murphy and I'll be leaving in a couple of hours to join in the fun. It's what you would expect in a small town...
There will be things for the kids to do, a classic car show, antique tractors, food vendors, arts and crafts, and lots of friends and neighbors milling about and catching up with each other. The downtown businesses will roll out the red carpet and Zell Miller (former governor of Georgia) will be signing his new book at one of our bookstores.
I'm looking forward to meeting my daughter there and we'll be going around and taking photos that I'll be posting on my Ning community for Murphy, NC:
MurphyConnections.com.
So, when I get back home later today, I'll post some of the photos and talk about what I did.
I'm also working on building multiple Squidoo lenses for businesses in my community, and this will be very different from how I've been earning a living over the last six years or so. While I was a caretaker for my Mom, I was confined to the house with her and had to learn how to generate an income while staying at home almost all the time.
Affiliate marketing worked well for me, but my income took a big drop last September and still hasn't recovered.
So, I've been working on plans to turn my online marketing skills to helping local businesses.
This time, the income stream will be very different.
With affiliate marketing, I posted the information, ads, and articles and hoped for income down the road, while I was helping the merchant build their brand at no cost to them.
With my offline Squidoo marketing business, I will get paid up-front for work that I'll continue to do during an entire calendar year. I like that idea much better.
In fact, the income model is looking so good that I made arrangements with someone to do most of my outside sales and I'll be paying her commissions on all sales and annual renewals. She starts selling the service on Monday.
I'll be introducing a new website in a few weeks and there will be a lot of interaction between it, Squidoo, and the Murphy Connections ning community.
I'm looking forward to talking about this topic with others here and hope you'll join in the conversation.
Gotta run. Lots to do before I go into town this morning. I'll be back.
Act on your dream!
